The students fourm for free/open software(SF-FOSS) entered into collaboration with National Resource Center for Free/Open Source Software (NRCFOSS). NRC-FOSS was the source of inspiration behind the creation of a dedicated Students' Forum at the Institute what emerged out as SF-FOSS.
NRCFOSS has been promoted by the Dept. of IT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India, to understand and address these issues in the Indian context, and to explore how FOSS can play the twin roles of helping to bridge the digital divide as well as strengthening Indian software industry. NRCFOSS is being implemented jointly by the AU-KBC Research Centre, Anna University, Chennai (www.au-kbc.org) and C-DAC, Chennai (www.cdac.in).
The first activity as a result of the collaboration was the 2 day National Level Seminar/Workshop on Free/Open Source Software and Higher Technical Education (FOSHTE). The workshop gave a platform for open discussion between SF-FOSS, NRC-FOSS and the Institute. The collaboration paved the way for activities that would be jointly conducted by SF-FOSS and NRC-FOSS in the future.
